by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Twynams Charities are looking for volunteers to fill the vacant positions on our their Trustee Team.

They are looking for people who can consider the big picture and who have good independent judgement and useful knowledge and skills.

Twynam’s Charities were established between 1630 & 1840 for the ‘Relief of Need’ in residents of Bishopstoke, Fair Oak & Horton Heath. The Charity is run by a Team of voluntary Trustees, with advice from a paid Clerk who carries out day-to-day management of the charities assets.

The charity owns five rented properties in Fair Oak Square. Surplus funds, are distributed at the discretion of the Trustees in line with the Charity’s stated objectives.
All Trustees must have a connection with the communities of Bishopstoke, Fair Oak and Horton Heath.

Experience of financial management or empathy with the needs of low income families and individuals is also highly desirable.

For an initial informal discussion, please contact: volunteer@1community.org.uk or call ? 023 8064 1202

The deadline for applications will be Monday 15th November with the intention of appointing new Trustees by Monday 20th December.

Drive a bus for us.

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Outside ASDA we have been meeting lots of people & talking about volunteering.

Best of all, we have one of our splendid buses outside to show you what our volunteer drivers get to drive! you could be driven individuals in to do their shopping, to meet a friend or attend a clan or support group. It’s a fun, rewarding and interesting role which is varied as no two days are the same. You will need a valid MIDAS certificate which we can help you to get.

If you are interested in volunteering in general or specifically in volunteering as a bus driver, please get in touch.

Urgently needed bus drivers.

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Volunteer Mini Bus Driver

Being a volunteer minibus driver for One Community Transport is a varied role taking local groups to their club meeting or on trips out, visiting places of interest. Often the driver is invited to take part in the activity, though that is optional!

One Community has a pool of drivers who may drive regularly for a group, or respond to one-off requests for special outings, but we need more drivers, because we hate having to disappoint groups who are planning a special day out because we don’t have a driver available.

The clubs and trips mean so much to local older people, disabled people and carers, especially as we emerge from a period of isolation for so many.

MIDAS training is provided in-house and is free of charge as long as you drive for One Community. All you need is a clean driving licence. Travel expenses for getting to and from the minibus compound are paid.

Library Outreach Volunteer

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Volunteer Centre Library Outreach Volunteer

Volunteer Centre One Community is looking for outreach volunteers to have a stand once a month for a couple of hours at libraries across the borough of Eastleigh.

You would talk to people about the benefits of volunteering and give information, newsletters and leaflets about volunteering opportunities available in the area.

This would suit someone who would enjoy chatting with people and finding out what kind of volunteering would be right for them, in terms of their interests, their time available, geographical location and what they would hope to get out of their volunteering, e.g. experience for their CV, meeting new people, supporting a cause they feel passionate about, using existing skills or learning new ones.

Mileage expenses reimbursed.

Meet the Volunteer. This is Imogen

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

I have recently begun volunteering with One Community to help people in the local community who may need some extra support. The impacts of the pandemic have made running errands, food shopping etc a daunting challenge for many, and it’s nice to know that by giving up a small amount of time, you’ve made life easier for someone. The effects of the lockdowns have also been tough, and it saddens me to think of someone feeling lonely or isolated. Making a Companion Call is so simple but can make a huge difference to the happiness and wellbeing of that person, and I love to chat so nice to put it to good use. I’ve lived locally with my husband for the last six years and recently having been enjoying exploring some of the beautiful countryside on many walks! In my spare time I like to bake and socialise with my friends and family.

If you are interested in volunteering yourself email us volunteer@1community.org.uk tel 023 8090 2400
Training and induction costs £20. Text 1COMM20 to 20085 to give £20.
