RADICAL RAFI, shopping help!

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Here is one of our superb CV response volunteers our shopping for vulnerable people who have to self-isolate.

Raphaelle Vingre is really enjoying doing this role.

Here are some comments we have had from the people we have helped:

I’m so grateful for all the One Community volunteers, they’re kind, friendly and do a great job. I feel supported.

Having shopping delivered means I can stop worrying about trying to eek out my supplies until my son can get to the shops. He works shifts so it’s been very difficult. We are so glad of this wonderful service. Plus they [the volunteers] are cheerful and smile and wave. That means a lot to me.

My neighbour lives alone and I was concerned about her not getting her medication, so I rang One Community. They took it all in hand and deliver her medications every week. I was so relieved.

If you need medications or shopping delivered as you are vulnerable and self isolating ring us on 023 8090 2400 or email vss@1community.org.uk

If you know anyone in need by all means call us and we can try to help. We work in Eastleigh and Fareham areas in Hampshire.

Present idea for someone who has everything!

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

GIVE THE GIFT OF TIME!

Pledge to volunteer in 2020 in someone else’s name for 50, 100 or 250 hours. Yes

  • 50 hours could equal one hour a week visiting a lonely person, or fundraising for a minibus.
  • 100 hours could equal driving for a local group, or providing IT or admin support.
  • 250 hours could equal volunteering in a museum, hospital or charity shop.

We can help you to find the right role for you and produce a personalised gift certificate and letter for you to give to the recipient of your gift. Perfect for Christmas, birthday or thank you gifts.

Auntie Doris might get lots of visitors, but she might be thrilled to know you are visiting older people who don’t see anyone, and that you are doing it as a gift to her.

Find out more about how to make a pledge by contacting us on 023 8090 2457 or emailing us volunteer@1community.org.uk

LifeLine helped.

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Panic Alarm (Lifeline)

Last week our LifeLine department got a call from the son of one of our clients. He thanked us warmly for the service that we had provided for his Mum who was in her 90’s.

On the day she passed away she had activated her pendant after becoming ill and falling, the ambulance service arrived and were able to gain entry via the key safe. Her son arrived and was able to talk to her and follow the ambulance to the hospital.

She knew he was there and he is so grateful that she had the LifeLine service as otherwise she may not have been found until the next day. Sadly, she passed away not long after arriving at the hospital.

We were all sad to hear this news, but pleased she had a Lifeline that summonsed help for her.

We all send our condolences to the family at this time of loss.

Do you have a LifeLine?

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Do you worry that you are on your own, could fall and need help? Have you had an accident and need some back up? Or do you have a loved one who is a bit vulnerable and you worry about them?

Consider having a LifeLine put in from One Community.

As part of our Options team we have an expert in Lifelines, Dill. We have LifeLine units but also bracelets for people to wear with a phone number on it in case the emergency happens when they are out from their home.

A Lifeline is a special emergency service for people who need some extra peace of mind and support. You just press a button and help is arranged for you.

Here is what one of our Lifeline holders told us recently:

‘It was wonderful to have Lifeline fitted for myself when I broke my leg in several places. I knew I could call for help day or night by just pressing that red button’

We can book you in for a Lifeline and the fitting is neat and tidy. Ring us 023 8090 2417 or email Dill on DWinnington@1community.org.uk
