URGENT- we need COVID SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Would you have a couple of hours a week or more to give to a person in need in the Eastleigh area during the pandemic? If you are a student, furloughed or looking for a job this is a great thing for your CV while you are not in work.

If you simply have a few hours you can give to those who are vulnerable in our community- we would LOVE to hear from you.

We often get quotes from our volunteers, here is one we had recently.

“I started volunteering to help out but I did not realise how much volunteering would help me out- I am more confident and it is fun!“

We are looking for volunteers to help with:

  • Shopping and delivery
  • Companionship telephone calls
  • Basics Bank deliveries

If you think you would like to help, ideally you will have a DBS and 2 references, but if you do not have these yet- please still contact us and we will assist you. We cover the cost of calls and the fuel costs involved.

Please email: volunteer@1community.org.uk or call 023 8090 2400 and ask for the volunteering department.

URGENT HELP NEEDED

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

As we enter a time of increased numbers of people being asked to isolate, we need some volunteers to help out.

If you are fit and well with a couple of hours to give or more, please get in touch with us as soon as you can.

If you have volunteered with us before or you are new to volunteering it’s really a wonderful thing to do!!Our team at One Community will get your papers completed as soon as possible so we can get you out helping in our community.

Any hours you can offer are of help to us and the people isolating within the area.

We are particularly looking for volunteers to do some shopping and drop it off at a persons home.

Also, looking for people who can collect and deliver medical prescriptions.

Are you out from shielding?

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

A lot of people have been told that they can go out once a day to exercise, who are at higher risk.

Many others are carers for people who are disabled or otherwise vulnerable.

Often shopping is something that is just too high risk. In that case, please follow our handy chart.

RADICAL RAFI, shopping help!

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Here is one of our superb CV response volunteers our shopping for vulnerable people who have to self-isolate.

Raphaelle Vingre is really enjoying doing this role.

Here are some comments we have had from the people we have helped:

I’m so grateful for all the One Community volunteers, they’re kind, friendly and do a great job. I feel supported.

Having shopping delivered means I can stop worrying about trying to eek out my supplies until my son can get to the shops. He works shifts so it’s been very difficult. We are so glad of this wonderful service. Plus they [the volunteers] are cheerful and smile and wave. That means a lot to me.

My neighbour lives alone and I was concerned about her not getting her medication, so I rang One Community. They took it all in hand and deliver her medications every week. I was so relieved.

If you need medications or shopping delivered as you are vulnerable and self isolating ring us on 023 8090 2400 or email vss@1community.org.uk

If you know anyone in need by all means call us and we can try to help. We work in Eastleigh and Fareham areas in Hampshire.

Supporting VE Day

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

One Community Supporting the VE 75 Celebrations

On Wednesday 6 May we were asked to be part of an Eastleigh Borough Council initiative – a collective effort among the Eastleigh Coronavirus Support Support hub in Eastleigh – to get party fare to care homes across the borough to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Our community transport team scheduled deliveries for Thursday afternoon on our minibuses and half a dozen of our CV Response volunteers went out to shop for every bodies party favourites.

Pictured are David and Sally Lloyds out doing volunteer shopping.

We were delighted to do this as part of our CV Response work. If you are need of shopping, prescriptions or someone to phone and have a chat, let us know on 023 8090 2400 or info@1community.org.uk
