Selfies in Fareham!

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Want to star in our selfie frame? Come on, you know you want to!

Just stop by our one community shop in Fareham shopping centre, right near B & M and Debenhams. We can chat to you about volunteering and why it would be a FABULOUS thing for you to be doing- even for just a couple of hours. We have a range of things you could think about from helping in shops to making cups of tea for someone and watching the cricket.

There’s such a great team of volunteers at Fareham we thought we should celebrate you all so you would be extremely welcome in our selfie frame of glory!

Here is Santa trying it out!

Fareham News

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Residents to continue getting first class support services.

The charity ‘One Community’ will continue to offer first class services to residents living in the Fareham Borough after the Council renewed their contract.

Fareham Borough Council will carry on funding One Community to deliver a package of community services in the Fareham Borough after a strict tendering process.

The Council provides the funding to deliver the ‘Big 3’ initiative which provides a focused package of support for the benefit of individuals and local groups.

The ‘Big 3’ are:

• Volunteering and skills exchange
• Funding advice and support
• Governance and building community resilience

One Community was first awarded the Council contract in 2015. The contract was awarded again this year after the service was put out to tender. Organisations submitted proposals which were assessed on best quality of service, best value for money and the proposed service being offered.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community, Cllr Sue Bell, said: “One Community have offered an excellent service and have made a difference to so many community organisations that operate for the benefit of people living in the Fareham Borough.

“We are delighted that One Community is going to continue to offer this fantastic service. There is so much evidence that people benefit from opportunities provided by volunteering and engagement with community groups, so it is of paramount importance to offer well-supported, effective community and voluntary activities.”

Anyone who wants to get help and support from One Community can contact info@1community.org.uk or for more information look at www. 1community.org.uk.

MASCOT MARCH SUCCESS!

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

https://1community.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Vid-1-community-Fareham-Mascots.mp4

One Saturday lunchtime in March, One Community in Fareham got together an enthusiastic bunch of strangely dressed people. They paraded with enthusiastic music and waving down west street.

What could have been the reason behind this unusual behaviour? YES! It was the 2019 Mascot March. Lots of people came and were able to celebrate some of the unsung heroes of our community here in Fareham.

Coming together for the good of one another is something everyone really agreed we need plenty of.

We even made the newspapers and the local TV “That’s Solent” filmed a news piece there.

Thank you to all of the people who came along to make this event such a good thing for Fareham.

Calling all Entertainers and Speakers!

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

At One Community we have an excellent resource in the form of the Entertainers and Speakers Guide.

Every quarter we update the content and we have picked up that there are a few changes to be made in the details of our guide. Some have opted to come off the guide altogether.

What we would like is some new talented entertainers and speakers to get into our guide. We would really like lots of people from the Eastleigh and Fareham areas to go in it.

Here is a flyer all about it.

There is a short form to complete. If you ring reception on 023 8090 2400 or email reception@1community.org.uk we will get the form out to you to complete your details.

You do not have to pay anything to go into the guide. You can download it or we can email it to you.

*If you would like a hard copy of the Guide, there is a small charge for photocopying and postage.

Friday Night Club THEFT

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

LOCAL CHARITY DEVASTATED BY THEFT

Last night thieves broke into a container stealing all the outdoor equipment of Fareham’s Friday Night Club including three off-road buggies, helmets and archery equipment. The Friday Night Club provides activities for people with learning disabilities/ mental health issues.

The most popular activities are the off-roading and the archery and it is difficult to see how the charity will continue in the short-term. Our clients are upset as their outdoor activities are the highlight of their week.
