Exciting new YouTube “One Community Conversations” with coffee.

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

One Community really wants to encourage you to get more involved with the community where you live.

So, we have started making some YouTubes about subjects we are involved in promoting at One Community.

We have a lot of information and support on Trustees, therefore “Trustees” is the topic of the first “Community Conversation.”

It is relaxed, fun and chatty but also very informative about what a trustee is and is mostly speaking with people who are actually trustees.

Watch “What is a Trustee?” a One Community Conversation. and find out more about being a trustee.

Please click on our YouTube channel to subscribe and then you can catch all the YouTube’s we produce.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF) is delighted to announce that Round 2 of the Solent Supporting Employment Programme is open from 1st February 2021, providing an exciting opportunity for community groups, charities and not-for-profit organisations to apply for grants of between £30,000 – £60,000 to help local people into employment.

Grants will be made to organisations in the Solent LEP area of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to help people improve their job prospects and move closer towards or into work. The programme is focusing on supporting people in the most deprived communities, with the closing date for applications being midnight on 1st March 2021.

Grants are aimed at organisations with a proven record in employability, that are able to reach and work with people facing complex barriers to employment, including BAME communities, older people, people with disabilities and people experiencing mental health issues and homelessness.

We strongly advise that organisations wishing to apply for a grant should register for one of our briefing webinars, giving full details about the grant programme.

Join our Christmas Tree festival

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Community Christmas Tree Festival, Eastleigh Museum 21 November-2 January
Please join us with your tree

We are inviting voluntary and community groups to participate in our Community Christmas Tree Festival at Eastleigh Museum, which will run 21 November-2 January this year (setting up on 18, 19 and 20 November). It is completely free to join in and because of the very challenging year we have all had, we are determined to make this – our fourth festival – the best ever, particularly as many Christmas events and celebrations may not be possible this year.

We are asking groups to contribute a Christmas tree to represent your organisation – it can be big or small, floor standing or table top, traditional in style or as creative an interpretation of a Christmas tree as you like!

Our theme for the 2020 Community Christmas Tree Festival is the community response to the challenges of COVID-19. This can take any form you choose, to reflect your experience, perceptions, gratitude, hopes, achievements, challenges and blessings of this extraordinary year. Here is a chance for you and your members to really express yourselves.

Your Christmas tree provides the perfect opportunity to promote your organisation/service, recruit volunteers or enrol new members. We will produce an A5 acrylic sign to go next to your tree, based on the information you give in your booking form.
We will stagger the setting up times to ensure that we maintain appropriate social distancing, and can assure you that the Museum and its activities have been carefully risk assessed and the premises and protocols adapted to be Covid safe.

To book your place please call us on 023 8064 1202, or email volunteer@1community.org.uk

Book a slot in our Eastleigh Shop

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

In the Swan Centre in Eastleigh we are sharing a shop space with the charity flourish.

This is quite a large and mostly open space with power and light and easy access. I have used it a few times supporting a novice computer user. It is ideal for meetings or sessions and we can offer it for people to use within the voluntary sector.

If you help run a local group and are volunteers and would like to take a look around the space or go ahead and book a slot you can. The shop is available Monday- Thursdays from 10-4 booking with us at One Community.

Naomi Stock is managing the bookings and can be contacted via email NStock@1community.org.uk or call on 023 8064 1202.
