COVID EMERGENCY RESPONSE VOLUNTEERS

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

The two areas we work in, Eastleigh and Fareham are in need of volunteers.

They need people to get and deliver shopping.

Volunteer phone companion callers.

Cheery callers to check on how people are

You will need to have a DBS check and two references to do this.

When you volunteer, yes absolutely you are providing an invaluable service and support.

It looks great on your CV. Our volunteers tell us they get a huge boost in their own well-being having been part of giving back to the community.

If you would like to help in either Eastleigh or Fareham areas email volunteer@1community.org.uk

You can call the Eastleigh office on 023 8090 2400 or Fareham 07702 802 555

Growing food, sharing it through Eastleigh Basics bank via One Community.

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Great job growing food and getting it to people who need it.

Local Ghurka Nepalese association has had a bumper crop they are sharing with the aid of One Community. Donating via Eastleigh’s food bank (called Eastleigh Basics Bank) these fantastic volunteers have given and continue to give an amazing amount of time, care and commitment. Plus a much needed selection of fresh, locally grown food.

Read more in this insightful article by the daily echo.

One Community’s transport and logistics team were involved this year and we continue in delivering food to the vulnerable during lockdown & tier 4 into 2021. If you know someone who is vulnerable & needs our help, please get in touch. Tel 023 8090 2400 or email reception@1community.org.uk

Christmas waste & recycling

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Over the festive period there is much more rubbish left out for the bins than normal.

Each district we support at One Community has slightly different services and guidelines.

Here are the guidelines and service details for areas served by Fareham Borough Council.

In the area served by Eastleigh Borough Council, here are the details.

In the early part of 2021 One Community will be looking at improving our communities environments and ways of making our lives more ecologically sustainable.

Keep independent at home

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Lifelines, Key safes, locks and integrated alarms

At One Community we do loads of really brilliant things to help vulnerable people stay at home.

One of these is Lifeline.

We also have some other things you might need to help you remain safe and independent.

Lifeline is a panic alarm you wear on your wrist or round your neck and if you needed emergency help, you just press the emergency button. The cost of one is from as little as £3.60 per week.

If you want one of these or would like to buy one for a friend or relative- ring 023 8090 2400 or email dwinnington@1community.org.uk or hmalcolm@1community.org.uk

You might choose to add in a falls detector for a small extra weekly fee.

We can install a lifeline within 48 hours (often the next working day) or the urgently same day for an extra charge.

Our installation is COVID safe and our friendly installers will show what to do and how it all works. You do not need a landline to have one fitted as a mobile number works just as well.

You can set up a local key holder who can come and help you in an emergency 24hours a day, 7 days per week. Or we can provide and fit a police grade key safe and master lock for you for help to use as needed.
In addition, you can choose to have smoke alarms, CO2 and flood detectors incorporated. These do incur an extra cost- please ring or email to request a price for these.

Most people opt to pay quarterly by direct debit. Or you can post a cheque to us.
Here is a menu of things you might like to consider.
* 48 hours installation (often the next working day) of lifeline to a landline or mobile £15
* Same day urgent installation £30
Weekly cost of Lifeline emergency alarm £3.60 or £46.80 per quarter.
* Weekly cost of a falls detector 50p per week
* Police grade Key Safe £85
* Master lock supplied and fitted £40
