Covid Emergency Volunteers

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

We have a keen, trained and enthusiastic group of Covid Emergency Response Volunteers.

What will stay with me: “The look of relief from several people at the realisation that they were not alone.”

Volunteer

Here is a short film showing some of what they have been doing and how to get involved yourself.

We would love to hear from you if you have a few hours to give in the Eastleigh area. We also need more people to make companionship calls.

To get in touch, email us volunteer@1community.org.uk or call 023 8090 2400

Meet the Volunteer. This is Imogen

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

I have recently begun volunteering with One Community to help people in the local community who may need some extra support. The impacts of the pandemic have made running errands, food shopping etc a daunting challenge for many, and it’s nice to know that by giving up a small amount of time, you’ve made life easier for someone. The effects of the lockdowns have also been tough, and it saddens me to think of someone feeling lonely or isolated. Making a Companion Call is so simple but can make a huge difference to the happiness and wellbeing of that person, and I love to chat so nice to put it to good use. I’ve lived locally with my husband for the last six years and recently having been enjoying exploring some of the beautiful countryside on many walks! In my spare time I like to bake and socialise with my friends and family.

If you are interested in volunteering yourself email us volunteer@1community.org.uk tel 023 8090 2400
Training and induction costs £20. Text 1COMM20 to 20085 to give £20.

URGENT- we need COVID SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Would you have a couple of hours a week or more to give to a person in need in the Eastleigh area during the pandemic? If you are a student, furloughed or looking for a job this is a great thing for your CV while you are not in work.

If you simply have a few hours you can give to those who are vulnerable in our community- we would LOVE to hear from you.

We often get quotes from our volunteers, here is one we had recently.

“I started volunteering to help out but I did not realise how much volunteering would help me out- I am more confident and it is fun!“

We are looking for volunteers to help with:

  • Shopping and delivery
  • Companionship telephone calls
  • Basics Bank deliveries

If you think you would like to help, ideally you will have a DBS and 2 references, but if you do not have these yet- please still contact us and we will assist you. We cover the cost of calls and the fuel costs involved.

Please email: volunteer@1community.org.uk or call 023 8090 2400 and ask for the volunteering department.

Look Up & Learn

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

OK. We know. It is lockdown again and frankly many are struggling. It is grey and cold and easy to feel rather flat.
We want to make things better for you here at One Community.

So, if you are running a voluntary organisation or charity you and your awesome people might like to raise their sights and learn some new skills.

The level of training we are offering on ZOOM is superb and if you want to give yourselves an uplift by learning something new or getting more practice on something you know a bit about already- check out the courses listed.

Our training manager Hayley Hamlett would love to take your bookings. Email her hhamlett@1community.org.uk or call 01329 239 934

We’re on a Trustee hunt.. I’m not scared!

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Yes, just like the famous Michael Rosen classic we are going on a trustee hunt.

…..We have gone through the swishy swoshy grass….

…..through the squelchy mud……

and we are yet to find the person to be our new trustee!

Maybe you are that person? One Community is a cracking local charity to people in the Eastleigh and Fareham areas that does massive amounts of good.

Now you aren’t home educating or are hanging on in furlough,  perhaps you would like to give back a bit to the charity that helped so many over lockdown? You could volunteer for us or go for sharing your experiences & expertise as a trustee.

For an informal chat ring 023 8090 2400 or email info@1community.org.uk

Volunteer made masks.

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Do you know anyone who may make some masks? If you know a person who could make us some masks to give for a donation at Eastleigh Museum, please send them our way.

We would like to help people in our community who cannot access masks easily.

If you have some to give us, please bring them to Eastleigh Museum- our local community hub.

There is an article about it in today’s Southern Echo HERE.
