Christmas waste & recycling

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Over the festive period there is much more rubbish left out for the bins than normal.

Each district we support at One Community has slightly different services and guidelines.

Here are the guidelines and service details for areas served by Fareham Borough Council.

In the area served by Eastleigh Borough Council, here are the details.

In the early part of 2021 One Community will be looking at improving our communities environments and ways of making our lives more ecologically sustainable.

Sam & Georgie are raising money for our Eastleigh Young Carers. They’ve done an amazing job so far but need more recycling.

All details on the poster.

Thank you all and a big cheer for Sam & Georgie!

Young Carers, mental health and recycling.

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

It is mental health week and we are looking at getting more funding and volunteers to help with our young carers, at risk of mental health.

We are really lucky in the Eastleigh area to have some amazing young people. Some of these are young carers. They spend a lot of time with a person who has a significant impairment and this effects their lives in many ways.

Because of the extra pressures and worries involved in life, together with other factors, they are at greater risk of mental health issues.

To combat these issues and increase happiness, our young carers team run various events and offer family support. There is; a young carers choir, youth activity groups and holiday time activities. Sometimes our young carers project gets a donation of Easter eggs, a day out or Christmas hampers. Our supporters are amazing, especially our One Community bus passengers, the ROTARY and LIONS.

Ideally would like to have more spaces to support more families. This will improve mental well-being and increase the chances of young carers to reach their potential.

So a young carer and her grandad have come up with a FANTASTIC idea to raise money for us.

Here is our Facebook post explaining all about it:

#eastleigh #youngcarers #mentalhealthweek we run young carers activities for yr3-yr13. Improving mental health as we go. To help us do some #Recycling of

mobile phone and ink cartridges

Listed below are the places you will find collection boxes for these items:

1 = Cherbourg Campus, #Crestwood College,

2 = The Crescent School,

3 = Eastleigh Library, in the Swan Centre,

4 = Eastleigh Baptist Church, (in coffee shop) Wells Place

5 = One-Community Office Romsey Road in the Reception,

6 = #ShopMobility, Wells Place

(next to McDonald’s),

7 = Tesco Extra #Hamble Lane #Bursledon SO31-8GN at the customers information desk

8 = Good Luck Chinese Take Away in Twyford Road #Eastleigh.

These locations are visited and collections made regularly, and the phones and ink cartridges are sent off to recycling companies and the money sent directly to Young Carers Bank Account.

(For your information from Georgie’s Granddad)

Young Carers GROUP bank account

I was with some friend the other day and when I was speaking about EYC and the money going directly to the E Y C bank account they said so the money goes directly to each of the Young Carers Bank Account (so the was answer NO)?

Last month I’ve modified all my documents and emails saying E Y C group bank account.

Please keep supporting this great group of young people.

With thanks to Georgie and Georgie’s grandad for helping us 🙂

Christmas Tree Recycling

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

When the festive season is over and your real Christmas tree has lost its sparkle, please recycle your tree.

Eastleigh Borough residents can recycle their Christmas trees from Wednesday 2nd January 2019. Recycling collection points for real Christmas trees have been set up around the borough where they can be dropped off between 2-15 January.

• Brambridge Garden Centre, Brambridge
• Lakeside Country Park, Eastleigh
• Haskins Garden Centre, West End
• Fair Oak Garden Centre, Fair Oak
• Woodhouse Lane Car Park, Hedge End
• Mortimer Road Car Park, Botley
• Hound Parish Hall, Woolston, Road, Netley

Recycling is possible at:
• Household Waste and Recycling Centre – Shamblehurst Lane, Hedge End
• Household Waste and Recycling Centre – Knowle Lane, Fair Oak
• Household Waste and Recycling Centre – Woodside Avenue, Eastleigh
• Household Waste and Recycling Centre – Grange Road, Netley

If you have a tree that is under four-feet tall and are in the Eastleigh Borough Council garden waste scheme, your tree can picked up from your home address on the scheduled collection day. You just need to put it next to the garden waste bin for collection.

Fareham Council District.

Christmas trees can be taken to the household waste recycling centres. One tree can be put out for collection with your garden waste on your first collection when the garden waste service resumes after the Christmas period. There is no need to chop the tree up, just leave it beside your garden waste sack. The maximum trunk diameter is 11cm.

Recycling Christmas Tree’s is a popular scheme and recycling them makes a really positive impact on our environment.
