Eastleigh Young Carers- Covid update

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Over the past months Eastleigh Young Carers team have been working hard to provide support for children in our project.

We are helping Jon who has a parent and a sibling who have disabilities. We are giving 1:1 ZOOM support sessions every week to Jon and doing a weekly check in with the family by phone.

We have made a short film to show you what they have been doing and where your donations go.

It is a little piece of joy on a grey January day!

You can watch the film HERE. On our YouTube Channel (please hit subscribe while you are there.)

At the moment, we are looking to give every child a pancake making kit. These cost just £5 each. If you would like to give us a donation please look at our DONATE page

So, if you are running a voluntary organisation or charity you and your awesome people might like to raise their sights and learn some new skills.

The level of training we are offering on ZOOM is superb and if you want to give yourselves an uplift by learning something new or getting more practice on something you know a bit about already- check out the courses listed.

COVID EMERGENCY RESPONSE VOLUNTEERS

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

The two areas we work in, Eastleigh and Fareham are in need of volunteers.

They need people to get and deliver shopping.

Volunteer phone companion callers.

Cheery callers to check on how people are

You will need to have a DBS check and two references to do this.

When you volunteer, yes absolutely you are providing an invaluable service and support.

It looks great on your CV. Our volunteers tell us they get a huge boost in their own well-being having been part of giving back to the community.

If you would like to help in either Eastleigh or Fareham areas email volunteer@1community.org.uk

You can call the Eastleigh office on 023 8090 2400 or Fareham 07702 802 555

Growing food, sharing it through Eastleigh Basics bank via One Community.

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Great job growing food and getting it to people who need it.

Local Ghurka Nepalese association has had a bumper crop they are sharing with the aid of One Community. Donating via Eastleigh’s food bank (called Eastleigh Basics Bank) these fantastic volunteers have given and continue to give an amazing amount of time, care and commitment. Plus a much needed selection of fresh, locally grown food.

Read more in this insightful article by the daily echo.

One Community’s transport and logistics team were involved this year and we continue in delivering food to the vulnerable during lockdown & tier 4 into 2021. If you know someone who is vulnerable & needs our help, please get in touch. Tel 023 8090 2400 or email reception@1community.org.uk

Christmas waste & recycling

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Over the festive period there is much more rubbish left out for the bins than normal.

Each district we support at One Community has slightly different services and guidelines.

Here are the guidelines and service details for areas served by Fareham Borough Council.

In the area served by Eastleigh Borough Council, here are the details.

In the early part of 2021 One Community will be looking at improving our communities environments and ways of making our lives more ecologically sustainable.

Christmas Tree Festival is WONDERFUL

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

We have had such a difficult year and 2020 will not be forgotten in a hurry!

Our very amazing local voluntary groups and organisations have really pulled out a the stops to help people in need. Our community groups have truly come into their own as that have rallied serving food, doing shopping, keeping in contact with each other and those they serve.

One thing we thought was this year we need a Christmas Tree Festival more than ever before.
Initially we held it on line and now lockdown 2 has relaxed into tier 2 we can open a live, socially distanced covid safe festival.

The theme was about how our organisations managed through covid this year.

If you would like to visit you are welcome to.
It’s free of charge, held in the Eastleigh Museum. Open 10-4 on weekdays and 10-2 on Saturdays.

Eastleigh community pantry

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

In the New Year, RCS Community Pantry will be opening on the ground of the Cable Works Building in Eastleigh.

The Pantry initiative is designed to support people with food deprivation, helping them to escape or move on from their current emergency with a ‘helping hand’ approach.

The RCS Pantry provides a holistic approach in servicing the needs of the community as it gives additional support on budgeting, wellbeing, adult learning and employment.
Food provided in the pantry will be fresh, frozen and general foods.

Each week there is a weekly meal deal provided with a recipe to help everyone have a wholesome meal.

Each member will be able to do a weekly shop at a small recommended donation charge of £5.00 per visit and receive a minimum of £15 worth of food.

The pantry has no restrictions on becoming a member. It is a simple and easy process by completing and returning the attached membership form to rcscommunitypantry@romsey.hants.sch.uk or by calling the pantry team on 01794522106.

Please note if emergency help is needed between now and the Eastleigh pantry opening, RCS can supply from the Romsey Pantry with collection at Cable Works.

Eastleigh Local Heroes

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Eastleigh Borough Council is giving people in the Borough the opportunity to nominate individuals, organisations or volunteer groups for a ‘Local Hero’ award.

This year has been challenging for many people across the Borough as coronavirus has continued to have an impact on day-to-day life, it has also brought people together and we have seen people go above and beyond to help others.

Find out how you can nominate a group or individual:
