Look at what is happening in your area….

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

We have a lot of things to tell you about every month and we produce “Network” and “Volunteering Matters.”

Every few months we produce “NEXUS.”

These are always interesting and high quality, full of interesting articles, adverts, events and news. In the last few months these have been extra important because of the COVID-19 crisis. NEXUS covers the work the CVS (community voluntary services) have been doing all over Southern Hampshire.

You can download copies which cover the Eastleigh area here.

You can download copies which cover the Fareham area here.

NEXUS can be found here.

We update these pages regularly so you should be able to find the latest publications easily.

Volunteering in the COVID-19 Crisis

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

We really do need some fit and well volunteers to help delivering food and medicines for our most vulnerable people. We already have some but would like more as do all of our fellow voluntary sector support organisations. If you are a car driver we want to support those who use their cars to help their community.
If you are using your own car for voluntary purposes to transport medicines or groceries to support others who are impacted by Covid-19, your cover will not be affected. You do not need to contact your insurer to update your documents or extend your cover. This applies to all categories of NHS Volunteer Responders, including transporting patients, equipment, or other essential supplies.

For people who want to volunteer through the COVID19 crisis please follow the following guidelines:
Register with your local Hampshire volunteer centrelocal Hampshire volunteer centrelocal Hampshire volunteer centre. Volunteer centres are there to provide support at a local level for individual volunteers and volunteer involving organisations. They can ensure that voluntary action is mobilized where it is needed and in a safe and, where required, legally compliant way.

If you cannot register with a volunteer centre, informal volunteering is fine for people that you know e.g. neighbours, friends, relatives. However when volunteering for strangers, to protect both parties it is advised to have DBS or identity checking, a service also undertaken by Volunteer Centre/Councils for Voluntary Services.

If you have a DBS completed in the last two years, it might be that you do not need a new one. Please contact us at One Community or your local volunteer centre.

Our contact details are tel: 023 8090 2400 or email vss@1community.org.uk

Happy New Year

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

We wish all our; customers, staff, volunteers and the communities of Eastleigh and Fareham we serve, a very happy new year!

Looking back over 2019, we have done so much! Looking back to Shop Mobility collecting their service award from the mayor of Eastleigh, fast forward to moving to our temporary premises at 75 Leigh Road.

We have all worked hard to improve the lot of people in Fareham and Eastleigh through our community project support, volunteering, Eastleigh museum’s and Fareham’s shop outreach and Young Carers groups. Our transport appeal for funding for a new bus is almost at the point of being able to get one on the road and the day activity services are a fun and welcoming place to be.

One Community is changing and in 2020 and we are looking forward to sharing a swan centre shop with local charity Fledge in the spring. We have several new training opportunities too.

Wishing all of you a very happy new year!

From all of us at One Community.

Hampshire Volunteer survey

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

We are sharing this with you as we know lots of you are volunteers or are involved with organisations who are involved with volunteers.

Hampshire County Council in partnership with Hampshire CVS Network and the University of Winchester wants to find out more about Hampshire residents’ attitudes to volunteering and informal help-giving, particularly in relation to supporting older people. As part of this outreach we would like you to assist us in publicising a survey open to the general public.

Please publicise our survey:

The public survey here asks for feedback on:

  • Whether there are particular types of volunteering opportunities that attract people more than others
  • More generally, what might attract people to volunteering
  • The barriers that would prevent someone from becoming a volunteer
  • The support might people need to help them to step forward
  • Whether people would want to access support from volunteers, and if so, how would they wish to do this?

The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete, and is open now for adults of all ages to respond.  The survey closes on 30 November 2019.

Please take our organisation survey if you work with volunteers:

The County Council and partners are also keen to get the views of community organisations, on how they currently deploy volunteers, and what future demand for volunteers might look like. To take the organisation survey click here.

We appreciate your support and look forward to the findings and strengthening our connections across Hampshire.

Help us to Help you!

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

One Community and other CVS’s across Hampshire have sent out this questionnaire to understand your views on the services we provide. We need to know how we can best continue to support Hampshire’s charities, community groups and social enterprises.

The questionnaire should take you less than 10 minutes to complete.  It asks questions about the quality of the services you have used in the past year. The questionnaire will be anonymous (unless you wish to provide your details.) All responses will be returned directly to Action Hampshire’s research team. We’d be most grateful if you would complete the questionnaire by Friday 16th November.
