Christmas Tree Festival is WONDERFUL

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

We have had such a difficult year and 2020 will not be forgotten in a hurry!

Our very amazing local voluntary groups and organisations have really pulled out a the stops to help people in need. Our community groups have truly come into their own as that have rallied serving food, doing shopping, keeping in contact with each other and those they serve.

One thing we thought was this year we need a Christmas Tree Festival more than ever before.
Initially we held it on line and now lockdown 2 has relaxed into tier 2 we can open a live, socially distanced covid safe festival.

The theme was about how our organisations managed through covid this year.

If you would like to visit you are welcome to.
It’s free of charge, held in the Eastleigh Museum. Open 10-4 on weekdays and 10-2 on Saturdays.

Join our Christmas Tree festival

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Community Christmas Tree Festival, Eastleigh Museum 21 November-2 January
Please join us with your tree

We are inviting voluntary and community groups to participate in our Community Christmas Tree Festival at Eastleigh Museum, which will run 21 November-2 January this year (setting up on 18, 19 and 20 November). It is completely free to join in and because of the very challenging year we have all had, we are determined to make this – our fourth festival – the best ever, particularly as many Christmas events and celebrations may not be possible this year.

We are asking groups to contribute a Christmas tree to represent your organisation – it can be big or small, floor standing or table top, traditional in style or as creative an interpretation of a Christmas tree as you like!

Our theme for the 2020 Community Christmas Tree Festival is the community response to the challenges of COVID-19. This can take any form you choose, to reflect your experience, perceptions, gratitude, hopes, achievements, challenges and blessings of this extraordinary year. Here is a chance for you and your members to really express yourselves.

Your Christmas tree provides the perfect opportunity to promote your organisation/service, recruit volunteers or enrol new members. We will produce an A5 acrylic sign to go next to your tree, based on the information you give in your booking form.
We will stagger the setting up times to ensure that we maintain appropriate social distancing, and can assure you that the Museum and its activities have been carefully risk assessed and the premises and protocols adapted to be Covid safe.

To book your place please call us on 023 8064 1202, or email volunteer@1community.org.uk

Upcycled Christmas Trees

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Upcycled Christmas

Where else would you see a Christmas tree entirely made of spectacles or – socks – than Eastleigh Museum’s Upcycled Christmas Tree Festival! This is One Community’s third annual Community Christmas Tree Festival at the museum and this year the theme is upcycling, to focus on environmental concerns and the re-purposing of what might otherwise be discarded.

Local voluntary and community groups have let their imaginations run riot – and we can guarantee that you won’t have seen as many milk bottle tops used in an art installation – ever!

The trees are in turn quirky, clever and beautiful, and viewed together are stunning, and each gives a message about the work done by each of the organisations represented.

Admission is free and the exhibition runs from 23 November to 4 January in Eastleigh Museum’s temporary exhibition gallery.

Christmas Tree FESTIVAL OPENS

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Community Christmas Tree Festival Opens!

The 2018 Community Christmas Tree Festival has opened at Eastleigh Museum with a gallery packed with beautiful trees, each representing a local voluntary or community group. The Boyatt Wood Partnership tree is literally created from Boyatt Wood – an artistic interpretation in twisted willow. The New Music Makers group from Hedge End has recycled music scores into exquisite decorations, while Headway Southampton’s art group has created a tree from used plastic bottles – incredibly pretty reflecting its Christmas lights.
Innovation and imagination abounds with decorations fashioned from lace, knitting and bricks! There are some thought provoking messages too, with trees from Wessex Cancer, Eastleigh Rotary’s Dementia Friends Campaign and from members of day centres around the borough.
The exhibition runs until Twelfth Night (5 January), and the museum, in Eastleigh’s High Street, is open 10am-4pm Monday to Friday and 10am-2pm Saturday. Please note the museum will be closed for Christmas from 1pm on Saturday 22 December, reopening on Wednesday 2 January.

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree!

Community Christmas Tree Festival 2018

Last year One Community ran a very successful Community Christmas Tree Festival in the temporary exhibition gallery at Eastleigh Museum, where voluntary and community organisations created funny, poignant and beautiful Christmas trees representing their activities. (Lovely 2017 Basics Bank tree pictured .)

The festival attracted 1,597 visitors to the museum, so it is a great way of raising awareness of what you do.
This year the Community Christmas Tree Festival runs from 24 November 2018 to 5 January 2019. Setting up will be on the Thursday and Friday 22 and 23 November, whenever is convenient between 10am and 4pm.

Participation in the event is completely free.
If you’d like to participate with a Christmas tree for your community group, please contact One Community for a booking form on 023 8090 2458 or volunteer@1community.org.uk
