Giving Tuesday & Big Give

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

About ten years ago Giving Tuesday started in the USA. It was a response to the materialism expressed in Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Over the last seven years, Giving Tuesday has been in the U.K., again a response to the materialistic thrust of the time between October and the 24th of December.

This year, the idea is for charities like One Community to join up with thousands of others and encourage people to give for a specific purpose. The hash tag to look for is #giveback2020

It gives the public a great opportunity to give back to our amazing charity that has given so much over the year of lockdowns, covid-19 and many heroes. (Like SUPER STEVE!)

Our target is to raise £5000 for our supported, accessible transport buses.

We have been running a service throughout 2020 in a COVID safe way. This has included shopping for the isolated, taking people out for essential appointments and getting day service on the go again. Our volunteers and staff have been second to none.

Once services start to re-open fully in 2021 to older, vulnerable and disabled people we want to be running services that meet their needs in the Eastleigh area.

To raise the £5000 we need your help.

Visit our DONATE PAGE for easy ways to give

SHARE our posts, tweets, images and articles (including this one!) on your own pages and with the charitable, voluntary or non profit organisations who have the same heart for community that we do.

Calling Local Business’, groups and kind people.

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Please help our raffle.

We have a quiz and supper night at the Eastleigh Railway Institute on Friday the 31st of May. It is being run by Eastleigh Lions and the aim is to help raise money for much needed new One Community bus.

These buses help vulnerable, disabled and older people to access services and the community. These buses provide a door to door service for people. The drivers and assistants make sure everyone is safe and comfortable. They give a cheery “Hello” and help the person on and off as needed. It is a great thing for people who are perhaps lonely as the regular passengers form a community of itself and have a chat on the bus. Honestly, it is a wonderful thing to support.

At this event we will be having a raffle and we need four more prizes. Ideally we would like some services or lovely things to give away as prizes.

If you have a service or an item you would like to give to us, please call 023 8090 2400 or email info@1community.org.uk.

Thank you!

Very generous Easter Bunnies!

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Our wonderful passengers help young carers.

For Easter many Hedge End Park & Dial-A-Ride passengers collected over 200 Easter eggs for young carers. They have collected so much for the lovely young carers who deserve all the great gifts donated by our kind passengers. This is not the first time they have provided such generous gifts and over the years hundreds of eggs have been given alongside other lovely things.

Our passengers have noticed that a little bit of kindness really does go a very long way. We think they are GREAT!

You could give us a bit of kindness very easily.

  1. Sign up for AmazonSmile when you do your shopping online.
  2. Volunteer for a few hours a week, we will find you something to suit your talents and time.
  3. Train with us and DRIVE OUR BEAUTIFUL BUSES (with these cracking passengers on them!)
  4. Donate £5 by texting 1COM5 to 70085 for us to run dial-ride & our other services, like young carers (we won’t bother you with marketing texts.)
  5. Ring us on 023 8090 2400 or email info@1community.org.uk and register to use our bus services.
