Giving Tuesday & Big Give

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

About ten years ago Giving Tuesday started in the USA. It was a response to the materialism expressed in Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Over the last seven years, Giving Tuesday has been in the U.K., again a response to the materialistic thrust of the time between October and the 24th of December.

This year, the idea is for charities like One Community to join up with thousands of others and encourage people to give for a specific purpose. The hash tag to look for is #giveback2020

It gives the public a great opportunity to give back to our amazing charity that has given so much over the year of lockdowns, covid-19 and many heroes. (Like SUPER STEVE!)

Our target is to raise £5000 for our supported, accessible transport buses.

We have been running a service throughout 2020 in a COVID safe way. This has included shopping for the isolated, taking people out for essential appointments and getting day service on the go again. Our volunteers and staff have been second to none.

Once services start to re-open fully in 2021 to older, vulnerable and disabled people we want to be running services that meet their needs in the Eastleigh area.

To raise the £5000 we need your help.

Visit our DONATE PAGE for easy ways to give

SHARE our posts, tweets, images and articles (including this one!) on your own pages and with the charitable, voluntary or non profit organisations who have the same heart for community that we do.

Bus Photo WINNER!

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

A couple of weeks ago we ran an INSTAGRAM competition. It was for people to take photographs of our buses in the area, upload them to their INSTAGRAM account and tag @1Comm (our charity’s account).

There was a wonderful prize of afternoon tea offered for the winning photograph.

We had a good look at the entries and in the end agreed on:

“Pussy Passengers”

Yesterday we were able to congratulate the winner, Ricky Vivian….

Ricky said:

“Thank you for this wonderful prize. I will enjoy taking my Mum on the Watercress line for our afternoon tea.”

Congratulations Ricky from all of us at One Community!

BUS PHOTO COMPETITION

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

INSTAGRAM Photo Competition.

1) Take a photo of a One Community bus.
2) Upload photo of our bus onto INSTAGRAM.
3) Tag @1Comm

We have two prizes.

Prize 1 is for the most tagged photos of different buses.

Prize 2 is for the BEST photo of a One Community bus.

Prizes for the winners to choose from are:
A cinema light box and pocket photography book or an afternoon tea for 2.

Our Transport team are skilled at getting people on our buses and taking them to our Day Services. Our buses take people to groups and clubs or into the town to do some shopping. We have a Dial-A-Ride service and a really good service to take people to the Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury’s retail site. We often run trips and days out for our passengers.

We do need more drivers for our buses and if you can give us a few hours of your time we would love to have you in our team. We will help you with getting all your paperwork and MiDAS training through. Just ring 023 8090 2400 or email volunteer@1community.org.uk.
