Upcycled Christmas Trees

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Upcycled Christmas

Where else would you see a Christmas tree entirely made of spectacles or – socks – than Eastleigh Museum’s Upcycled Christmas Tree Festival! This is One Community’s third annual Community Christmas Tree Festival at the museum and this year the theme is upcycling, to focus on environmental concerns and the re-purposing of what might otherwise be discarded.

Local voluntary and community groups have let their imaginations run riot – and we can guarantee that you won’t have seen as many milk bottle tops used in an art installation – ever!

The trees are in turn quirky, clever and beautiful, and viewed together are stunning, and each gives a message about the work done by each of the organisations represented.

Admission is free and the exhibition runs from 23 November to 4 January in Eastleigh Museum’s temporary exhibition gallery.

Hate Crime Report 2019 LGBQT+

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

At One Community we are committed to improving the opportunities and lives of all of the community. Part of this role is to research, present and make recommendations for improvements to current practice and take these ideas to move forwards in a positive direction.

We have just completed an important piece of research into Hate Crime against LGBQT+ people in the Eastleigh area. This is to examine the current levels of hate crime reported in the borough and consider ways this could be improved.

The report concludes with several recommendations for organisations working in the community.

We would like to thank all those who contributed to this research.

If you would like to read the report online without downloading it- please click HERE.

If you would like to download a copy- here is the link to do so: Hate Crime Report 2019 LGBQT+

YOUNG CARERS UPDATE!

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

We can hardly believe it either but WOW our very own ‘walking dead’ walkers have raised over a £1000!

Just such an amazing physical achievement and such a great Young Carers project to support.

Please see the poster below for all the details.

Feeling inspired?

Sponsored walking might not be your thing but perhaps you might like to try a pudding night at your WI or men’s group, perhaps a Zumba challenge at the gym or a sponsored tech famine at youth group? Short on ideas? We have lots!

Just email Jean at jroberts-jones@1community.org.uk 023 8090 2400

You can make a donation really easily to One Community. Including on line, in person or via text.

Volunteer Awards 2019

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

** APOLOGIES ** For the previously upside down photos, we did not hold awards in Tasmania after all!

Wow what a wonderful time was had on Tuesday 4th June 2019! The mayor of Eastleigh Darshan Mann was there and it was great to see him keenly supporting volunteering in our area.

Held at The Point, Eastleigh, it’s a fabulous evening celebrating the significant work of our volunteers. These amazing people are volunteers within the Eastleigh area. Their personal dedication and a great sense of giving to the greater good in a diverse range of projects has been celebrated.

We were delighted to receive so many nominations. We especially wanted to mention those from the Eastleigh Street Pastors who have celebrated their 10 year anniversary recently.

We had a lot of fun with the selfie frame.

Congratulations and many thanks to all those attending this warm, encouraging and uplifting celebration volunteer award evening.

Calling all Entertainers and Speakers!

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

At One Community we have an excellent resource in the form of the Entertainers and Speakers Guide.

Every quarter we update the content and we have picked up that there are a few changes to be made in the details of our guide. Some have opted to come off the guide altogether.

What we would like is some new talented entertainers and speakers to get into our guide. We would really like lots of people from the Eastleigh and Fareham areas to go in it.

Here is a flyer all about it.

There is a short form to complete. If you ring reception on 023 8090 2400 or email reception@1community.org.uk we will get the form out to you to complete your details.

You do not have to pay anything to go into the guide. You can download it or we can email it to you.

*If you would like a hard copy of the Guide, there is a small charge for photocopying and postage.
