Giving Tuesday & Big Give

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

About ten years ago Giving Tuesday started in the USA. It was a response to the materialism expressed in Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Over the last seven years, Giving Tuesday has been in the U.K., again a response to the materialistic thrust of the time between October and the 24th of December.

This year, the idea is for charities like One Community to join up with thousands of others and encourage people to give for a specific purpose. The hash tag to look for is #giveback2020

It gives the public a great opportunity to give back to our amazing charity that has given so much over the year of lockdowns, covid-19 and many heroes. (Like SUPER STEVE!)

Our target is to raise £5000 for our supported, accessible transport buses.

We have been running a service throughout 2020 in a COVID safe way. This has included shopping for the isolated, taking people out for essential appointments and getting day service on the go again. Our volunteers and staff have been second to none.

Once services start to re-open fully in 2021 to older, vulnerable and disabled people we want to be running services that meet their needs in the Eastleigh area.

To raise the £5000 we need your help.

Visit our DONATE PAGE for easy ways to give

SHARE our posts, tweets, images and articles (including this one!) on your own pages and with the charitable, voluntary or non profit organisations who have the same heart for community that we do.

Keep independent at home

by Jenni Bevis-Lacey

Lifelines, Key safes, locks and integrated alarms

At One Community we do loads of really brilliant things to help vulnerable people stay at home.

One of these is Lifeline.

We also have some other things you might need to help you remain safe and independent.

Lifeline is a panic alarm you wear on your wrist or round your neck and if you needed emergency help, you just press the emergency button. The cost of one is from as little as £3.60 per week.

If you want one of these or would like to buy one for a friend or relative- ring 023 8090 2400 or email dwinnington@1community.org.uk or hmalcolm@1community.org.uk

You might choose to add in a falls detector for a small extra weekly fee.

We can install a lifeline within 48 hours (often the next working day) or the urgently same day for an extra charge.

Our installation is COVID safe and our friendly installers will show what to do and how it all works. You do not need a landline to have one fitted as a mobile number works just as well.

You can set up a local key holder who can come and help you in an emergency 24hours a day, 7 days per week. Or we can provide and fit a police grade key safe and master lock for you for help to use as needed.
In addition, you can choose to have smoke alarms, CO2 and flood detectors incorporated. These do incur an extra cost- please ring or email to request a price for these.

Most people opt to pay quarterly by direct debit. Or you can post a cheque to us.
Here is a menu of things you might like to consider.
* 48 hours installation (often the next working day) of lifeline to a landline or mobile £15
* Same day urgent installation £30
Weekly cost of Lifeline emergency alarm £3.60 or £46.80 per quarter.
* Weekly cost of a falls detector 50p per week
* Police grade Key Safe £85
* Master lock supplied and fitted £40
