A couple of weeks ago Eastleigh College contacted me at the museum to see if I could take on a student on work experience who was having difficulty in finding a placement. This particular student was autistic and also has additional learning difficulties.
We take on students from time to time, as the museum gives them a good variety of jobs to get stuck into which is invaluable experience for them as they think about moving from education into the work place. This particular candidate provided us with a new challenge, to try and find something suitable for his individual needs. However, we persevered and all ended well. Although the student was not suitable for a permanent placement at the Museum, his short time there over two weeks in February, five days a week, allowed him to gain a more suitable position at the British Heart Foundation. This year we will have presentation evenings in Eastleigh and Fareham through volunteers week to reward out wonderful volunteers.

The words of the Robert Burns poem of 1788, Auld Lang Syne, roughly translates as ‘for old times’ sake’ and is about preserving old friendship and looking back over the events of the year.
